The goal was to take over the roads of Montreal in one of largest convoys ever. The ride lasted a couple hours as we drive all around the island and finally put traffic to a halt as we entered the Lafontaine Tunnel. Once exiting, some of us stopped at the Shell gas station. The feeling of meeting up there resembled something seen at the annual Worthersee Tour in Austria, as they too have a large VW meet at a Shell gas station. The police tried blocking off the road, but we managed to escape in time, as they began giving out tickets to drivers. Some were unlucky enough to have their cars towed for being "too low" and for other miscellaneous reasons. Enjoy this video we put together of the event. This year, they changed locations to a larger venue to accommodate the large number of people that were to attend. VAG Enthusiasts from all over Quebec, Ontario, and even from the States came to attend the event. Same pretty impressive rides were there, including a Mercedes SLS, MK2s with shaved engine bays, and slammed wagons. Last in the evening called for some drag racing and a burnout contest. He got rear ended real hard at a traffic light which cause the volkswagen to propel forward hitting the car in front of him. The blue burnout toy was totalled and no longer driveable. It was a sad day for those in our local community because this car brought lots of burnouts, and it was an overall simply clean car. This three day Air & Water-Cooled Festival attracted all generations of Volkswagens and Audis. From Beetles to Type 2s and 4s to more recent models on bags and even a Phaeton. The show gather people from all over the North East to bring a weekend filled with a laid back atmosphere. BagRiders kicked off the weekend with a BBQ, followed with a performance by the Drop Kick Murphys. Saturday started off early with the show and shine, with several activities during the day including the car limbo competition. The afternoon called for a cruise out to the beautiful Vermont country side, over the scary Smugglers Notch and back to Al's French Fries for some Fries and Homemade Ice Cream. The show ended Sunday with another show'n'shine and with the Trophy Ceremony for the best cars in their class. This was our first time at the event, and definately not our last. The drive that gathers 50 or so Volkswagens and Audis from Montreal to the ever so big, Waterfest. A lot of new faces this year, and many old ones, we all took on the path to New Jersey. The participants tried to book at the same hotel as last year, but unfortunately Ramada has banned all Montrealers from their establishment. They were not sure beforehand what this meant, but we soon found out the whole deal once they got into town. Essentially, the city was prepared for them. Apparently, they were notorious for all the crazy parties, burnouts, shenanigans, and drunken behaviors. Out of all the 20 000 or so enthusiasts that invade the town, they were targeted as the ringleaders of the awesomeness that goes on. It was thanks to them that the cops closed down the Chili's meet, the Ramada burnout party, and all other small gatherings throughout the run down cities surrounding Englishtown. His ride is unlike any other and is a perfect example of cleanly modded car. It has been featured in both Eurotuner and Performance Volkswagen magazines, as well as several online websites such as Canibeat and AirSociety. At first glance it may seem like an ordinary MKIV, but a lot of work and sweat has been put in by Don in his home garage. Shaved and tucked engine bay, CCW Classics, GT3076R from CTS Turbo, Unitronic Chipped Stage 3 Performance Software, Bora R front and rear bumpers, Bagyard Air Ride kit, Recaro seats, and the list just goes on. What is fascinating to see is the transformation it has gone through. Don bought the car years ago completely stock and has been working on it ever since. The heart and soul of Quebec was poured into Eurokracy and it was reflected in the quality of cars and drivers that stopped by to say hello this past June 25. A day filled with rainy weather didn’t hold anyone back as over a thousand people poured into Autodrome St-Eustache to see everything from bagged dubs to stanced out JDM rides. What’s a car show without a Limbo Competition? There was stiff competition between Skip Tuning’s rabbit pick up, Sam’s static dropped Bimmer, and even VW Campbell’s Thing with dropped front windshield and no roof; but the winner of the competition was a bagged BMW Z4 from Ontario that dropped his ride to under 50″ from ground to roof! Wet asphalt made for an awesome burn out competition, a handful of dare devils lined up and ripped rubber. DM Motorsports’ burn out lasted for over 2 minutes long! This event, held in the Southeast, attracts thousands of Vdub enthusiasts from all over the States. There are even some Canadians such as us that made the 20 hour drive down there. You might be asking, “Who drives so far to look at cars?”. This show is unlike any other. It brings the love and passion that the whole community shares, no matter where you are from. There were many stories and “miracles” that people shared about their journey to arrive at the hidden German alpine village located in Helen, Georgia. One incident involved the Wagenwerks crew hitting a bear with their Audi wagon. Luckily they are alright, and the car was not that badly damage. A picture of the aftermath can be seen bellow. Overall, SOWO is an amazing event that keeps growing every year. The quality of the cars, the great people, and the beautiful village are what attracts people to come.
